It appears the political killings in Kwazulu-Natal are not about to stop.
This after another ANC member was gunned down in the early hours on Thursday.
The ANC in Kwazulu-Natal said it has learnt with sadness, the brutal killing of  Sithembiso Mhlongo, ANCYL Deputy Secretary of Moses Mabhida Region.
Mhlongo, 34, was a branch chairperson of Empophomeni Township, Ward 9 of Umngeni Local Municipality and deployed as a proportional representation (PR) councillor at Umngungundlovu District Municipality.
Mhlongo was gunned down at his home by unknown assailants who pretended to be police officers in the early hours of this morning.
At this stage, details regarding the murder remain sketchy, but it appears that Mhlongo opened the door and his attackers fired several shots at him.
He was rushed to hospital and succumbed to his injuries.
“The death of Cde Mhlongo adds more pain as we were still trying to come into term with the brutal killing of Cde Lungisani Mnguni who was assassinated in Enkanyezini area, Ward 3 of Umkhambathini Local Municipality  on Monday morning while conducting his businesses,” said ANC Moses Mabhida Regional Secretary, Mzi Zuma.
Moreover what is concerning and disheartening in the region is that it has seemingly become a hotspot for such brutal killings of our activists and public representatives, Zuma added.
Zuma has condemned this brutal killing describing it as an act of cowardice.
“It is worrying that those behind these cowardly acts see young activists who still have a long contribution in our movement as soft targets. At the moment as ANC, we would not like to speculate the motive behind this heinous crime to our comrades."
"We exhort comrades and community to assist the police with whatever information that can lead to the arrest of the killers.
This morning the leadership of Moses Mabhida Region led by Chairperson, Mthandeni Dlungwane and Secretary, Cde Mzi Zuma visited Mhlongo’s family to pay homage. The ANC conveys its heartfelt condolences to the Mhlongo family, comrades, friends and the community he served with dedication.
"We will pick up your spear and continue to serve the community for the attainment of a better life for all."
